Residency Program
Section: Residency Program
Message from our Program Director, Sandra J. Allison, MD
Welcome to the Georgetown University Hospital Radiology Residency Program home page. I would like to invite you to learn more about the program and about Georgetown. The goal of our program is to prepare our residents to become outstanding clinical radiologists. We aim to create an environment that is educational and nurturing with highly skilled motivated faculty and state of the art equipment. We combine this with the strong clinical departments in the hospital to provide a comprehensive educational experience. Residents are exposed to a wide variety of cases and pathology during rotations both in-house and at our affiliated sites. We bolster clinical experiences with ten hours per week of designated conference time. The didactic schedule is designed to cover the required curriculum in all subspecialties of radiology as well as master the six core competencies. We intentionally have relatively few fellows to keep our program resident oriented. Aside from running the various services throughout the radiology department, our residents are involved in all aspects of the program, including conference scheduling, program evaluation, curriculum planning and resident selection. Extensive resident involvement promotes ownership and pride in the department. Research is strongly encouraged. Residents may work with one of the many research mentors in the department or in conjunction with our Imaging Science and Information Systems (ISIS) Center. Residents also play a key role in medical student education.
I hope you take some time to browse the site. We are proud of our training program, the camaraderie among the residents, the collegiality with the faculty and the dedication of our teachers. Along with the local recreational and cultural attractions and the diversity of the Washington, DC population, the radiology residency at Georgetown University Hospital is a desirable choice. Congratulations on your choice to become a Radiologist. We hope that you come to visit and perhaps even stay.
