Welcome from our Chairman, James B. Spies, MD, MPH

Thank you for visiting our website. We are proud of our department and are delighted to share it with you. We are committed to our mission of providing advanced imaging services of the highest quality in a setting dedicated to academic excellence and the provision of outstanding patient care and service.

MedStar Georgetown University Hospital is a 609 licensed bed academic tertiary care hospital providing a full range of medical services to Washington, DC and the greater Baltimore-Washington region. The hospital is one of the leading medical centers in the region and provides a full range of services from neonatology to geriatric care. The Department of Radiology provides comprehensive imaging services in support of the clinical practices of the medical center and the Washington, DC community and has particular strengths in advanced diagnosis and therapy.

The department has a full complement of modern imaging systems including digital radiography and mammography, angiography, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasonography, positron emission computed tomography, and nuclear medicine. Our technology base has recently undergone further enhancement with the installation of a 3T magnetic resonance system, an 128 slice CT system and the completion of our conversion to a fully digital department.

The department provides services in diagnostic radiography, digital mammography, fluoroscopy, diagnostic angiography, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasound, breast MRI, nuclear medicine, interventional and neurointerventional radiology.

While committed to excellence in patient care and service, we also are committed to our core academic missions of education and research. We have an excellent residency program with 5 residents per year, including 1 position in a direct pathway in Interventional Radiology. We also offer fellowships in Abdominal Imaging, Neuroradiology, Vascular & Interventional Radiology and Women's Imaging. Finally, we have medical student rotations throughout the entire department, as well as specialized rotations in General Radiology, Neuroradiology, Inteventional Radiology and Nuclear Medicine.

We continually strive to improve both our patient services and academic programs. We welcome your interest in our department and would be happy to serve in any way we can.
